finished: woven crochet headband prototype

January 9, 2014

Last weekend, I spent most of my time trying to figure out this crochet technique and whipping up a couple prototypes for my own amusement.  I'm absolutely in love with the result, and will soon be listing this as a made-to-order headband in my shop, as well as figuring out a good way to write up a pattern (it's easy, but a little complicated to put into written words).

So far, I've made this cream-colored one and also a purple one, both of which look great.  I'd say this looks best in bright or light colors because you wouldn't be able to see the pattern as well on a dark color, like black, although a dark yarn with a nice sheen would probably look nice, too.

Next up, I plan to experiment with using two colors.  I think I'm in for a wild ride!

If you're interested in making one for yourself and don't want to wait for the written pattern, then you can check out this video (in Spanish) over on YouTube that describes the technique.  I don't know Spanish myself, but if you watch closely, you can piece together what she's doing with the help of some folks in the comments.

Finished: Crochet Owl Obsession Afghan

December 30, 2013

It's done, it's done!  It's finally done!

I may or may not have had to work my fingers to the bone to crochet the final pieces of this together on Christmas Eve, but I'm pleased to say that I was able to sew the panels and work up a border before packing it in a cute bag as my cousin's Christmas gift.

Finished: Hat and Headband with Interchangeable Flowers

December 20, 2013

It wouldn't be the holiday season if I wasn't knitting headbands or crocheting flowers out the wazoo!  Here's one of my favorite sets that I whipped up last week for a custom order in my etsy shop.

I loved making the hat because a) it's one of my favorite designs I've come up with and b) I've never made one with a stripe at the bottom before, which led to some pattern alterations that I love, love, LOVE - some BPsc's around the last row before the purple begins add yet another ridge to the design, which lends well to the overall texture.  It fits right in and I'm happy with the final product.

So now it's off to finish (okay, start) all my handmade Christmas goodies for the family.  In typical Jenn fashion, I have also decided to make yarn pom-poms as gift bows instead of purchasing them, which should keep me busy this weekend (as if I have nothing else going on!)

I hope you all enjoy your last weekend before Christmas!  I've only got a few gifts left on my list to buy, so it's mostly wrapping and crafting for me the next couple days.  Plus, we have the annual Secret Santa gift exchange with our local friends tomorrow - yummy food and silly presents always abound!

See you Monday with hopefully one last update before the big day :)

Finished: Purple Crochet Hat with Pigtails

December 18, 2013

Just in case you haven't seen everything, here's a purple crochet Cabbage Patch-inspired pigtail hat.

I did, in fact, make that.  And I also, in fact, wasn't sure I'd like the end result.  But holy smokes, it's beautiful.  I want one for myself, but realize it's probably not appropriate for a woman of 30 (at least for wearing to work).
