As sad as it is to say, we’ve been back from our week-long trip to the Big Easy for a couple weeks now, where we spent our time brewery hopping, buying enough souvenirs to pay extra to get my suitcase home, and drinking wine-filled blood bags courtesy of the Vampire Cafe.
But perhaps one of my favorite vacation highlights is our visit to Quarter Stitch, an adorable (and PACKED!) yarn and cross stitch shop not far from Bourbon St, which made it easy to spend a chunk of my paycheck after a hurricane or two.
The shop is easily accessible from anywhere in the French Quarter - in fact, we weren’t even trying to find it the day we stumbled upon it - and it has everything a knitter, crocheter, cross stitcher, or embroiderer could ever want. It’s not the biggest yarn shop I’ve ever been to, but it’s certainly stuffed to the gills with more cool goodies than others. Plus, your purchases get wrapped in a “party bag” that I refused to open until we got home because the colorful ribbons and glitter confetti made me so happy; it’s serving Mardi Gras, for sure.
I tried to buy yarn that more local fare than anything, but had to grab as much as I could that caught my eye, especially some Halloween colorways that called my name. I even picked up a Mardi Gras Santa cross stitch embroidery kit that looks like it’s going to get on my nerves - a testament to how cute it actually is.
I had to restrain myself to ensure I could actually get everything home, but had I known how much we’d buy the rest of the trip, I’d have loaded up on even more. It’s probably a good thing that worked out the way it did, though, since I actually need money to spend on the upcoming holiday season.
It’s a great little place you should check out if you’re ever in the area, for sure, and I was lucky enough it wasn’t far from our hotel, so i got to pass it nearly every day, which brought a smile to my cynical little face.
